'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the dramatic dying seconds of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses after the post-goal scrum.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range shot from outside the box, and the defender quickly slammed home the deflection before racing off toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory sealed an unbelievable turnaround given Swansea had been behind 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. Amid the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win earned a upcoming match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right wing-back after the team changed formation. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the City players who complimented the way the underdogs approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they understand how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're doing well and then without warning they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be focused every second of the game. It demands a tough attitude and attention just to keep pace."

New Chapter

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has swiftly done the same in south Wales. At his previous team he reunited with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford City, before he departed Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without much intensity. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches encounters against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This marks quite the ride for the kid from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

The player's sole appearance for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "It was a long trip and it was cold out there," he comments, chuckling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "The decision proved quite easy, because I reached the point where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it reached a stage where I believed I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

New Environment

It is the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a minibus driven by academy staff, the drivers, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the next one to stop using the bus and on the road. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

During his time at Orient, Galbraith would blend in with fans on the Tube after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
